Universities with Birkenstock-Wearing, Tree-Hugging, Clove-Smoking Vegetarians by: Naomi Nishihara on October 29, 2014 | 0 Comments Comments 1,970 Views October 29, 2014Birkenstock-Wearing, Tree-Hugging, Clove Smoking Vegetarians aren’t as rare a species as you might think, and they appear to gather at certain universities, united by their fashion sense and fondness of the natural world.A question to consider is: Do the Birkenstock-Wearing and Tree-Hugging types congregate to these schools intentionally, or do these schools turn their students into the Clove Smoking Vegetarians they now are? It’s no secret that a universitys culture will influence the way its students turn out, and appealing or not, this particular reputation is definitely something to be aware of if you’re considering the schools below. The Princeton Review rankings are based on a multi-question survey concerning students’ political persuasion, use of marijuana, religion, satisfaction with the student government, and level of acceptance of the LGBT community on campus. The list indicates the top 20 schools at which students identified as very liberal, highly accepting of the LGBT community, unsatisfied with the student government, and not religious.By looking at the past six years of rankings at once, you can see which schools are a constant presence on the list. Only 36 schools have made the list in the past six years, and of them, eight were listed every year.Of those eight schools, five of them Bennington College, Bard College (NY), Sarah Lawrence College, Reed College, and the New College of Florida were also listed in each of the last six â€Å"Most Liberal Students†rankings, in an unsurprising correlation. Here are the schools with the Birkenstock-Wearing, Tree-Hugging, Clove-Smoking Vegetarians:The Birkenstock-Wearing, Tree-Hugging, Clove Smoking Vegetarians Rankings From 2015 to 2010.tftable {font-size:12px;color:#333333;width:100%;border-width: 1px;border-color: #729ea5;border-collapse: collapse;} .tftable th {font-size:12px;background-color:#acc8cc;border-width: 1px;padding: 8px;border-style: solid;border-color: #729ea5;text-align:left;} .tftable tr {background-color:#d4e3e5;} .tftable td {font-size:12px;border-width: 1px;padding: 8px;border-style: solid;border-color: #729ea5;} .tftable tr:hover {background-color:#ffffff;}2015 Rank School2015 Rank2014 Rank2013 Rank2012 Rank2011 Rank2010 Rank Skidmore College 1 5 7 12 NR NR Sarah Lawrence College 2 3 4 11 7 7 Reed College 3 4 1 7 6 5 Bennington College 4 1 2 6 3 8 Oberlin College 5 NR NR 8 16 18 Vassar College 6 6 NR NR 17 11 Bard College (NY) 7 2 3 9 1 1 Pitzer College 8 8 11 17 12 12 Guilford College 9 NR NR NR NR NR Lewis Clark College 10 7 8 15 14 15 Univer sity of Puget Sound 11 NR NR NR NR NR Emerson College 12 9 NR NR 11 17 New College of Florida 13 11 9 1 4 4 State University of New York Purchase College 14 12 15 NR 19 20 Warren Wilson College 15 17 5 10 18 19 Grinnell College 16 NR 14 16 NR NR Green Mountain College 17 NR 18 18 NR NR Occidental College 18 NR NR NR NR NR University of Vermont 19 20 NR 20 NR NR Eckerd College 20 14 NR 19 NR NR Beloit College NR 10 10 4 NR NR Wesleyan University (CT) NR 13 13 NR NR 13 Evergreen State College NR 15 6 13 NR NR University of Toronto NR 16 NR NR NR NR Colorado College NR 18 12 5 20 NR Macalester College NR 19 NR NR 15 16 Bard College at Simons Rock (MA) NR NR 16 3 9 9 The University of North Carolina at Asheville NR NR 17 NR NR NR Marlboro College NR NR 19 NR 10 10 University of California Santa Barbara NR NR 20 NR NR NR Eugene Lang College NR NR NR 2 8 3 University of Central Florida NR NR NR 14 NR NR Hampshire College NR NR NR NR 2 2 Prescott College NR NR NR NR 5 NR University of California Santa Cruz NR NR NR NR 13 14 Clark University NR NR NR NR NR 6Source: The Princeton Review Page 1 of 11
